Biography

Born in China and based in Canada, Xing Bang Fu is a highly regarded and leading figure in the world of dance in both places. Starting out at the Beijing Ballet School, Xing went on to train with the School of American Ballet Theatre and the Washington Ballet before settling in Toronto and founding the Xing Dance Theatre of Canada in 1986. Xing draws from a deep well of experience when seeking inspiration; he has also studied martial arts, gymnastics, and, most recently, Butoh. Xing has become known for the innovative incorporation of this wide spectrum of styles in his work. Ranging from classical ballet to traditional Chinese and modern dance, Xing has created a distinctive trademark style in which disparate traditions and cultures coalesce to form a single unique and harmonious whole.

Xing’s dance and fitness training pedagogy is unique, he integrates elements from the best in progressive and acclaimed training methods of ballet, contemporary dance and the latest advances in the science of movement. Xing’s technique and teaching methods are further enhanced by his professional and internationally renowned experience.
